The Legendary Route Day 5

Over half way through cycling over 550 miles.

Now in our tents in the middle of Aintree race course (see photo).

A lot happier as a physio has sorted out knee problems and felt strong at the end of our longest ever ride and time in the saddle (over 10 hrs) beginning with a gentle journey through the Cumbrian countryside. After 30 miles though we were confronted with shap Fell, a huge hill in the Lake District and rode into the mist and rain and of course, the strong headwind (gusts up to 30 mph). The views on the way down showed the area in its raw beauty. After this the remaining 70 miles were fairly level and descended into pretty countryside. The bike also needed a bit of attention as its taken a battering this week. 4 days to go and onto to Ludlow where James's grandma will meet us!

Stats of the day:

Start; 6.41am

Miles 123.49

Ave speed 12.25 mph

Ascent. 5669ft

Time in saddle 10hrs. 05 mins

Calories 6263
