British 10K London Run 10th July 2011
Published: 11 July 2011
On the 10th July 2011 18 brave people running in aid of Canterbury Oast Trust took part in the British 10K London Run.
They joined a record 25,000 entrants on the route around some of London's best known landmarks.
Three of our runners Sarah Kirk, Emma Stanford and Steve Dowling all work for COT. This is what Sarah had to say about the day:
"Well not having taken part in an event like this before I had to get some serious training in and the 10th July came around fast! I was up at 5.30am to catch a 7.10am train from Ashford to Charing Cross. Steve nearly missed the train all together and had to run from where he’d parked so he'd already done his warm up before we met! In London we made our way with 25,000 other runners to the start line! I was really nervous, don't think I had seen so many people all together all at once and we were right in the middle of it! I have to say is a tough but enjoyable run. The sun was out which made it rather hot but the crowds that lined the streets were all cheering as we raced past them - and this really helped to spur me on! As you can imagine the scenery was a lot different to what I’m use to, running along the embankment towards Big Ben and Westminster was brilliant. The finishing straight went past number 10 Downing Street which was another great land mark to race past. All three of us managed to complete the 10K in just over an hour".
All of our runners completed the 10K and thoroughly enjoyed the day!
