Volunteer visit to Rare Breeds CentreThe staff at Department of Student Support and Guidance at Canterbury Christchurch College decided to follow the advice they normally give to their students. A group of twenty six came to volunteer at the Rare Breeds. It was a team building exercise for them. They spent the day loping branches of the various Hornbeam, Oak, Ash, and Field Maple trees which make up Rainbow Woods and cutting back bramble. The threatened rain did not appear, the day was just right and the tools we provided did the job well. The volunteers worked very hard and were able to cover a large area. We would like to think that they found it a worthwhile and rewarding exercise. They have offered to come back another time and donated £250 on top! Thank you Judy Challis and Geoff Haworth. They were very ably supervised by Dr. Roland Emson, our long term volunteer and Matthew Quaife, a member of staff at Poulton Wood. |
