WARREN MEWS is the foundation of COT's new Community Support Services (CSS). Warren Mews is made up of three 4 bedroom detached houses located close to the amenities of New Romney. The houses came into use in September 2006 as home for 9 people, each house is shared by 3 tenants. Each tenant has their own room, (1 has en suite). The rest of the house is shared and comprises; the 4th bedroom, bathroom, toilet, modern and well equipped kitchen, utility room, lounge, dining room, garden. CSS represents an ability for the Trust to provide people who are ready or able to take more control of their lives with quality housing that is secured by a Tenancy Agreement made between COT and each tenant. COT has always promoted the treatment of people as individuals and CSS provides us with the opportunity to offer an alternative to residential care. The Tenancy Agreement is about what will be provided in terms of housing, provision of utilities, furniture, equipment, health and safety, maintenance etc. The tenant has options to take other service provision but does not have to take everything that is on offer. For example, in addition to the Tenancy Agreement, COT offer the use of vehicles and have separate agreements for any person who wants to take part in the scheme. One person finds the public transport (there is a bus stop right outside Warren Mews) very useful and prefers to use this as a means of transport rather than use a car. The Tenancy Agreement does not cover the provision of support to provide food, clothing, education, recreation. Should a tenant require assistance in any of these activities then a separate care contract is agreed on an individual basis. Tenants also have the choice to contract to use services provided by COT or other providers. |
A wide choice of shops and a Post Office are close by, there are Banks and Building Societies, 2 GP surgeries, several options for religious worship, a sports centre, restaurants, public houses, takeaways and, of course, being near the sea (the port dried up in the 14th Century) fish and chips. Sainsbury's have just opened their new supermarket in the Town so tenants have an active town close at hand. There is a good bus service that goes to Rye and Hastings in one direction and Folkestone and Dover in the other. Should a tenant want the quiet life then the Romney Marsh is close by. A ten minute walk takes you into the quiet of the Marsh and the sea, sand and dunes are only one mile away. |
Warren Mews has had a 24 hour staff presence since opening. This may not always be the case - it depends entirely on each person's requirements. |
